Recorded October 9-11, 1992, Powell Symphony Hall, Saint Louis, Missouri The CDs from the Sony Classical Masters series have been completely digitally remastered at a level of 24 bits and 88.2 kHz, a resolution that virtually excludes processing losses. Compared to processing with a 96 kHz sampling rate, the listener perceives the resultant sound as gentler and more translucent since, owing to the simpler even-numbered down-sampling, the CD standard sampling frequency reaches 44.1 kHz during the subsequent mastering process.
