"The first section of this album documents a live collaboration between saxophonist Arrington de Dionyso and International Novelty Gamelan that took place on 4/21/17 in Minneapolis during Arrington's THIS SAXOPHONE KILLS FASCISTS national US tour." "As an interesting contrast, for the second half of the album I have added a live recording made in September 2015 in Malang, East Java" "I'd like to dedicate this album to my friend Munir Khar who came to the United States seeking amnesty from political persecution in his home city of Malang, East Java. He was jailed for many months while waiting for his hearings and his story of finally being able to settle in Minneapolis as an artist is a truly extraordinary tale...as are all tales of people who seek refuge and safety from oppression anywhere in the world. I joked with him that maybe someday I will be forced to seek amnesty in Malang. So it's in that spirit that this album features Javanese-inspired trance music meets free jazz improvisations recorded with residents of both Minneapolis and Malang. Does that make sense?"
