In the 1980's, the Edinburgh based engineering company, Syrinx Precision Instruments, produced, among other items, tonearms for the audiophile community. This recording was probably issued to demonstrate their tonearms, or as promotional material, and as a consequence is produced to a very high standard. The 'Vol.1' designation suggests an intended series of recordings of Bach, however none further were forthcoming. Yet the company did subsequently release at least two further recordings: Schubert's String Quintet in C major (CAT No. 002), a double album also pressed by Nimbus; and 'A Favourite Kreisler Evening' (CAT No. 003), both dated 1982.
