It was written for and premiered by the St Lawrence String Quartet at the 1992 Tanglewood Festival of Contemporary Music. "[r=1353315]" was co-commissioned by the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the University Musical Society at the University of Michigan, and the Lied Center at the University of Kansas. Dreams and "Prayers" was premiered in August 1994 by Gloria Feidman and the Cleveland Quartet at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival; it is dedicated to Silvia. "Lullaby and Doina" was commissioned and premiered by the Boston Symphony Chamber Players (April 2001). Lullaby and Doina is dedicated to Tony Fogg and the BSCP.
