In his new album, the Valencian guitarist Ximo Tébar pays tribute to a series of classical jazz authors through a few standards that have been treated in their own way; that is to say, following the guidelines of the progressive mainstream that it has been cultivating in recent years in New York, to which it has added something -or quite a bit- of its own harvest: the so-called Mediterranean son. The selected songs are only eight, but their names have their backs turned: Caravan, by Ellington and Tizol; Take five by Paul Desmond; Wayne Shorter's United; Goodbye pork pie hat, by Charles Mingus; With soul, by Dizzie Gillespie; Poinciana, by Nat Simon; Bemsha Swing, by Thelonious Monk, and, although in its original conception it has nothing jazzy, In Aranjuez with your love, by Joaquín Rodrigo. In this collection of compositions, Tébar wanted to highlight a couple, which are the ones that give the album its title, to which he has printed more that Mediterranean son that is the brand of the house, qualifying them both with the curious name of "pseudo- bulerías ”. And in both cases he has had the help of exceptional guests: in the case of United, Jorge Pardo's flute, and in Con Alma, Arturo O’Farrill's piano.
