Released in conjunction with the upcoming world release of the motion picture movie of CATS (December 20, 2019 Worldwide; January 24, 2020 in Japan), the original London cast version (the originating cast of the musical) was converted to SHM-CD (Super High Material CD) as a reissue of [r=6481340].
The release comes with two booklets. The first booklet includes all of the credits, song titles, and lyrics in English. The second booklet has the translated song titles and lyrics (based on what is being sang, done in 1998) into Japanese, and includes commentary (dated October 2019) on the upcoming movie and an interview conducted at Universal Music LLC. (dated October 12, 2019) with Japanese musical theatre and CATS alumni Masachika Ichimura and Akiko Kuno, both composed by Yuji Muraoka.
UICY-15846 is the catalog number of Disc 1 and UICY-15847 is the catalog number of Disc 2.

A NOTE ON THE TEXT
Most of the poems comprising Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats (1939) have been set to music complete and in their originally published form, a few have been subject to a minor revision of tense or pronoun, and eight lines have been added to The Song of the Jellicles.
However, some of our lyrics, notably The Marching Song of the Pollicles and the story of Grizbella were discovered among the unpublished writings of Eliot.
The prologue is based on ideas and incorporates lines from another unpublished poem, entitled Pollicles Dogs And Jellicle Cats.
Memory includes lines from and is suggested by Rhapsody On a Windy Night, and other poems of the Prufrock period. All other words in the show are taken from the Collected Poems.

This recording of "Cats" contains most of the music of the London production of the musical which opened at the New London Theatre on May 11, 1981. There are some small alterations and cuts for recording purposes principally in the longer dance sections and narrative poem "The Pekes and The Pollicles."
