Commemorative Album Celebrating The 70th Anniversary (1928-1998) Of The Twice Red Banner Academic Song And Dance Ensemble Named After A.V. Alexandrov Of The Russian Army. The Alexandrov Red Army Chorus Is The Greatest Military Artistic Group Of Russia. Its First Appearance Took Place On October 12, 1928. The Stars Of This Artistic Company Were 12 People: A Vocal Octet, Two Dancers, One Reciter, And One Bayan Player (Russian Type Of Button-Key Accordion). Already At The Middle Of The 30s The Ensemble Was Enlarged, Uniting Large Male Chorus, Orchestra And Dance Group And Became Increasingly Popular. The Ensemble Was Named After Alexander V. Alexandrov, Their Founder, The First Leader And Artistic Director, Professor Of The Moscow Conservatoire, USSR People's Artist, Renowned Composer And Conductor. The Activities Of The Chorus Answered A Growing Need In The Souls Of Listeners, And Laid The Groundwork For The Growth Of A New Form Of Musical Expression - Military Song And Dance Ensemble. In 1937, The Chorus Went Abroad For The First Time, Representing Russian Art At The Paris Exposition. Its Appearance In France Met With Exceptional Success. The Exposition Jury Gave The Group Its Highest Award - The "Grand Prix". During WWII, The Red Army Chorus Gave More Than 1,500 Concerts In The Front And Rear. The Talented Composer And Conductor Boris Alexandrov Took Over The Ensemble In 1946. He Not Only Kept The Best Of His Father's Work, But Took The Group Farther Along The Road To Perfection. The Ensemble's Repertoire Is Vast And Versatile, Including More Than Two Thousand Different Works: Russian Composers' Songs, Operatic Choruses, Cantatas, World Classics Masterpieces And Folk Songs.
