Ili (Yining) is a kazak autonomous region, in Ili prefecture live more than a million kazak people, ranking second largest ethnic group after the Hans. This north western part of Xinjiang is considered kazak ever since kazak existed, but in contact with lots of other proto turkish ethnic groups. like the Uyghurs with whom they share a lot linguistically and the Mongols who used the same kind of housing system and the same passion for horses.
This CD presents 2 essential instruments of Kazak music, performed by 2 recognized kazak music teachers from Ili town.
